Day 27 of 31

The time on the clock this morning when I woke up to Devyn projectile vomiting. I can't handle throw-up (at all), but combine that with an already queasy tummy and its a disaster waiting to happen. Luckily, Jon took care of the hard stuff, I got to handle the bath at 4:00 in the morning.

Devyn and I made chocolate chip cookies last weekend. She had a blast helping pour the ingredients into the bowl, you could tell she felt quite grown-up. They're delicious, in fact, I believe when I left the kids in Daddy's care this morning, a couple had been snatched off the counter. Mmmmmm, cookies for breakfast!

Lest anyone think that I have it all together, here's proof that laundry has overtaken my life. There's an identical pile of laundry on the other side of the room.

About once a week, Devyn begs me to clean out one of our cabinets so she and Hudson can play "house". They love it and can play in there for hours!

With the tornadoes came intermittent power outages; its allowed for some cozy evenings by candlelight. And the kids have had a blast making finger puppets by flashlight.

The same day that I declared "silence" on this blog, we had a number of tornados hit our area. The day after, my husband was called in to work with FEMA on the recovery of the area that was hardest hit. This is just one photo he took during the day; it makes you appreciate the important things in life.

"The full music video of "When Love Takes You In", performed by Steven Curtis Chapman in his album entitled "Declaration". Keep in mind, this song is a love letter to Chapman's adopted children ... and also a higher metaphor for the souls lost in the journey of life."

In deepest sympathy for Steven Curtis Chapman, his family, and the heartbreaking loss of his daughter, this blog will remain "dark" for three days. Please see Beth Moore's blog for more details.

This is not our bathroom, but it's an idea of where I've spent most of the past 24 hours; either "morning" sickness has reared its ugly head or I caught one heck of a bug. You be the judge.

Happy 30th Anniversary Mom and Dad! Thank you for showing how much hard work goes into a marriage and that love is often a choice, not a feeling. I love you two!

We went up to Jon's family cabin yesterday; it was great to be in the mountains. Here is Devyn and Hudson with "my Alli". My sister is so great with them!

Do you think its time for a haircut?! (Thanks for the photo, Justin!)

NOT enjoying his first haircut!

The haircut is growing on me, although I did mourn the loss of those beautiful curls!

Whenever I notice that Devyn’s been quiet and absent for a while, I tiptoe into her bedroom to find her head buried in a book. She’s taking after her mama!! (Excuse the obvious bed head, that’s the jungle I have to tame every morning!)

Day 14 of 31

With the blessing of my sister, Christine (who saw the heartbeat of her little one again this morning, praise the Lord!), I can finally tell you that I am also pregnant. Jon and I received the unexpected news early last week, the day after his grandmother died to be exact. Unlike Devyn and Hudson who were carefully planned for, this little one is a big surprise! Not only were we not trying, we were actively preventing too.

Christine suggested I was pregnant before I had any inkling, saying she had a feeling during the Beth Moore conference. I assured her, repeatedly, that I wasn’t and that my dear friend, AF, was due to visit any day. She finally convinced me to buy a pregnancy test and I placed it on the bathroom counter for the next morning. Throughout the rest of Monday night and early Tuesday morning, I assured both Christine and my husband that I was certain my monthly visit was on its way. When I walked into the bathroom mid-morning, the pregnancy test sat there, mocking me, and I decided to take it on a whim. It was supposed to be the reassurance I needed, further proof that I wasn’t pregnant.

Hudson followed me into the bathroom and kept reaching for the white stick. I placed the cap back on it and gave it to him to play with. I lazily went about my morning, every so often catching a glimpse of Hudson clutching tightly to the white stick. When I placed Hudson in his chair for breakfast, I was finally able to extract the stick from his hands and check out the results. Imagine my shock when I saw two, glaringly pink lines staring back at me. My mind completely went blank, I couldn’t breathe, and I barely remember the next hour. For the life of me, I could not get in enough air.

When I called Jon to tell him, he thought something had happened to Hudson because the only things I could utter where, "ummm… ummm… ummm…" and "oh my word" over and over again. When I finally uttered the words, "We really are pregnant", he didn’t believe me. It wasn’t until he could hear Devyn in the background scared and crying from watching her mother shake and pace the floor, that it finally sunk in for Jon.

It was during mid-call with someone (I’m sorry, I don’t remember who I was talking to) did it hit me that I was still taking anti-depressants and had stopped taking prenatal vitamins when I’d weaned Hudson back in February. A quick visit to the doctor confirmed the pregnancy and allowed us to set up a weaning schedule to get off the antidepressants. I’m down to every other day and I’ll stop completely next week. Despite being a little more tired, waking at 3:30am hungry, and the constant breathlessness, I feel great. In fact, I’ll be honest, I’ve taken five more pregnancy tests since then because it’s the only tangible proof I have that this is really happening.

Jon is ecstatic and I’m definitely coming around. It’s like my friend, Mandy, laughingly said upon hearing the news, "I just KNEW this was going to happen to you sometime. You are such a planner and something was bound to happen to take the control out of your hands." And Jon is right, how can we argue with God and His plan for our family? I can be at peace knowing that while I might not agree that this is the best timing in the world, God has ordained this life to be, at this time, right now.

Devyn's daily request... sugar 'n cinammon toast. It's daily, folks! I think it may have something to do with how much sugar I put on it. But hey, we all have our vices!

To all you lovely mothers, grandmothers, and aunts out there... Happy Mother's Day!

And to my husband, without which I would not have a reason to celebrate today. Thank you for loving me, supporting me, and for those beautiful children of ours. I love you!

We had to run to Super Walmart this afternoon for a few things; someone should've reminded me it was the day before Mother's Day. Chaos!!

Jon's grandma, the wife of this honorable man passed away, on Monday, May 5th. The love, care, and support of two of her daughters were there with her... until the very end. Mary Jacqueline, you will be missed!

After much sorrow and heartache, my sister, Christine, has reason to hope again! The newest addition to our family is due about a week before our sister, Courtney, is to be married. God sure has a sense of humor, doesn't He?

Devyn riding on Papa's shoulders. My dad, Devyn, and I had a date yesterday; it was Devyn's first major league baseball game.

Devyn Paige enjoyed the game; especially the hotdogs and peanuts.

Day 4 of 31

After I got home yesterday afternoon, we (meaning Jon, the kids and I just kept him company) did some yard work. This was a new-build and landscaping was not part of the deal. We have a lot to do.

Miss "Sassy" Paige posing for the camera.

Daddy hard at work, while the kids play.

Hudson doing his best to pitch in.

Day 3 of 31

Jon and the kids picked me up from Mom's after being gone at Beth Moore's conference. Awesome conference! There's so much to say about it, but I'm still processing.

Day 2 of 31

Ahhh... the simple joy of ice cream cones!

Apparently, one cone wasn't enough and Devyn swiped a bite from Nana's cone too.

Hudson was far more interested in playing than eating ice cream, but if you look closely you can see the brown ring of ice cream around his little mouth.

For the next 31 days I'm going to post a picture (or pictures) depicting daily life around the house of Munchkin Land. I'm borrowing this idea from Wendy at Showered With Grace. Enjoy!

There are times, when I look in my rearview mirror, that I'm both surprised and in awe that those two belong to me.
