Random Moment #1

Last weekend, I was in the midst of feeding Hudson. Devyn was playing with her baby stroller and dolls and my dad was in the process of emptying the dishwasher.

"Hey," he called from the kitchen, "what do I do with these?"

"What are these?" I asked, not looking up because I was in the process of re-situating Hudson.

"These... your breast-making things."

"My what?!" I wondered, completely flustered to be discussing breasts with my father.

He held up two flanges from my breast-pumping machine. Oh... those breast-making things. "Uh, Dad, those are for pumping breast milk. And they go in the lazy-susan."

I'm not sure who was more red, my dad or I.

Random Moment #2

I love Hudson, I really do. And he is a wonderful baby... as long as someone is holding him. But if anyone puts him down, especially on his back, watch out, he screams bloody-murder! However, he's getting heavier and its making it harder and harder to hold him for long periods of time.

I've been watching all these sling, baby-wearing moms with envy. Because, even though I have two slings, I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to use them without feeling like Hudson was going to fall out. I'm sure it would've been smart to keep the instructions on each sling but I just figured, "How hard could it be?!" Um... don't answer that.

I finally downloaded instructions to one of my slings from the computer, and lo and behold, I finally figured it out. I carried Hudson all around the house yesterday afternoon. He felt secure, my back didn't hurt, and he obviously loved it! I am now a proud member of the sling, baby-wearing, mama club! Whoo hoo!

Random Moment #3

Devyn has the most patience of any two-year-old I've ever seen! Well, let me take that back. Patience as far as Hudson is concerned. I was in the kitchen fixing her afternoon snack; I had left Hudson on the chair and Devyn watching a movie when all of a sudden I heard, "Hair, mama, hair!"

I looked up and noticed that Devyn was sitting awfully close to Hudson. I walked over and sure enough Hudson had a fistful of her hair. Did Devyn panic and start crying? No. Did she hit the baby? Nope. Did she starting screaming like any other two-year-old would have done? Nada. Instead, she patiently waited for me to come into the room and untangle her curls from Hudson's fists. She even gave him a kiss on the cheek afterwards.

Didn't I tell you she's an incredible sister?!?

I’m a coffee drinking, book reading, laundry procrastinating, husband and children loving, mess of a woman who believes that chips and salsa can fix anything. We have chickens running around the backyard, a mountain of dishes in the sink, and on any given morning, I have at least 10 school forms that need my signature or initials. It’s a crazy life {I prefer to call it controlled chaos}, but its ours.

She is an incredible sister!!

And, the picture of you and Hudson is adorable. I have 2 slings and a Baby Bjorn, but I have never been a faithful user of any of them. I have never figured out the slings, and I can do the B.B. for short periods of time - but then my back hurts. Maybe, I should try my slings again. . . I just might pull them out tomorrow.

Oh, I've had that same exact moment as you, when my dad was emptying the dishwasher when we were in the States...yikes!

I finally figured out the sling thing too...although I can only carry one at a time!

Blessings,
Joy

The last baby that I wore in a sling is now 17 years old! He is such a happy and affectionate child... it makes all those days of carrying him everywhere worth it!

peace, Alida

Be glad you have a patient two-year old, because I certainly do not! Cosette gets quite frustrated when something isn't cooperating for her. But then, as I watch her, I see my own actions being lived out, and I realize she's just copying her mama! So, I guess it's something we'll both have to work on. If Devyn is patient for you, I guess that means you must be pretty patient too :)

I can totally see your Dad turning red! That story is hilarious, and I am sure was very embarrasing for both of you. Good thing you are close!!

I love your baby sling. Isn't it fun baby-wearing!?! I still do it with Brooklyn from time to time. It's wonderful having them that close, isn't it!?!

I love that Devyn is so sweet, patient and gentle with Hudson. It's really a true testament to what great examples you and Jon are for your two kids. Keep up the good work!!

Slings are the greatest!!! On days when my 19 month old just wants to be held...I still walk around the house with him on my hip supported by the sling. Hands free, and a happy baby (or toddler as the case may be) oh the joy!

What a cutie patootie! ANd the moment about your dad is priceless. My mom had a similar time with my dad when they were discussing why I couldn't leave the baby in OH when I went to NC for my grandfather's funeral. Finally my mom had to say, "Honey, her breasts can't reach that far!" How funny!

Oh my goodness, I would've been so embarrassed in that type of a situation with my dad! :)

I love hearing how patient Devyn is with her little brother, Hudson. That's so sweet!

Congrats on figuring out how to use your sling!
