Does anyone remember this post? No sooner had I posted that entry when we discovered that we didn’t want to work with that builder after all. Both the builder and the real estate agent seemed to feel a little too sure of themselves. When asked about possible incentives and/or discounts, the realtor’s exact words were, “If they can find a better deal somewhere else, then they should take it.” So that’s exactly what we did; Jon and I decided we really didn’t want to invest such a large amount of money with someone who was taking our business for granted. So, we trudged on, looking at other builders in the same neighborhood.

After much consideration, discussion, and spirited talks (read: some fighting), Jon and I have finally made a decision on a builder, lot, and floor plan. I’ve attached a picture of the floor plan below. The house is approximately 2300 square feet, with 1160 square feet of it finished. The house will have three bedrooms, two baths, a three-car garage (at Jon’s insistence), and a gas fireplace. The only downside is that the laundry room is downstairs but we’re excited to have so much extra room to grow and build. This home is in a wonderful neighborhood and we’re so excited!

On Monday night, we actually signed a contract with the builder and wrote a check for our earnest money. (I don’t think I’ve ever written such a large check in my life!) Our realtor, and friend, Jeremy, went through each document with us, one-by-one, explaining what each said and/or meant. I think I was a little cross-eyed by the time we finished reviewing everything. So, as planned, we have a contract on a house that should be ready for move-in by early-July to mid-August and we have a street address; here’s a hint, it’s a very hard to pronounce flower.

Living with my parents, while not ideal, has been a huge blessing and we’re so thankful for the opportunity to get out-of-debt before taking such a big step in buying a house.

I’m a coffee drinking, book reading, laundry procrastinating, husband and children loving, mess of a woman who believes that chips and salsa can fix anything. We have chickens running around the backyard, a mountain of dishes in the sink, and on any given morning, I have at least 10 school forms that need my signature or initials. It’s a crazy life {I prefer to call it controlled chaos}, but its ours.

What a wonderful feeling to have a new home underway before Hudson arrives.

How exciting! I've been checking up on you and hoping you've had that little boy, but I bet he'll be laid back about everything. When they decide they come into the world usually matches up with their personality!

We have a home similar size to yours and we just finished the basement. It has 2 huge rooms and a half bath. It has added sooooo much wonderful growing space (we use the rooms as an office and a schoolroom). Congrats!!

Not Wisteria Lane, I hope!
Congratulations! (If they are building your home 'from scratch' and the laundry is downstairs, see if they can put a laundry chute in. It's so helpful!)

Congratulations!
I'm so happy that you went with your gut and stopped working with the last builder - it looks like it was a very good thing! The house is beautiful!
