Tired and Weary

Wednesday, November 08, 2006 9 Comments A+ a-

I am badly in need of some encouragement, ladies, more than you know. I’m not willing or able to go into all the details but the bottom line is that I’m currently feeling discouraged and weary as a sister, daughter, and Christian. Some family stuff plays into it, nothing concerning my husband, daughter, or pregnancy, just some really hard stuff outside of them. And don’t get me started about some of the political stuff going on in this country. The bottom line is that I’m desperately looking for some verses that will offer peace, encouragement, or truth. Please share, I’d love to hear what verses get you through moments like these!

I’m a coffee drinking, book reading, laundry procrastinating, husband and children loving, mess of a woman who believes that chips and salsa can fix anything. We have chickens running around the backyard, a mountain of dishes in the sink, and on any given morning, I have at least 10 school forms that need my signature or initials. It’s a crazy life {I prefer to call it controlled chaos}, but its ours.

Of course, I'm not sure what is happening and this isn't the typical encouraging verse...bu I'll give it a try. This is a passage that I've come back to many times for 6 or 7 years and right now is one of those times in my life. Let these words sink in:

For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yeields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, **so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.**
Isaiah 55:8-11

"Where can I go from Your Spirit?
Or where can I flee from You presence?
If I ascend to heaven, You are there;
If I make my bed in Sheol, behold, You are there.
If I take the wings of the dawn,
If I dwell in the remotest part of the sea,
Even there Your hand will lead me,
And Your right hand will lay hold of me." ~Psalm 139: 7-10

"When I am afraid,
I will put my trust in You.
In God, whose word I praise,
In God I have put my trust;
I shall not be afraid.
What can mere man do to me?" ~Psalm 56: 3-4

"From the end of the earth I call to You when my heart is faint;
Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.
For You have been a refuge for me,
A tower of strength against the enemy.
Let me dwell in Your tent forever;
Let me take refuge in the shelter of Your wings." ~Psalm 61: 2-4

I always seem to go to the Psalms when I am in need of encouragement and strength. Let me know if you need anything. Blessings on you and your family.

My heart is not proud, oh Lord, my eyes are not haughty; I do not concern myself with great matters or things to wonderful for me. But I have stilled and quieted my soul; like a weaned child with its mother, like a weaned child is my soul within me. O Israel, put your hope in the Lord both now and forevermore.
Psalm 131

I also love the Psalm 139 that AggieJenn shared.
Praying for you, even though I don't know the details I know God does.

Passage Deuteronomy 31:6: (The Message)

6 "Be strong. Take courage. Don't be intimidated. Don't give them a second thought because God, your God, is striding ahead of you. He's right there with you. He won't let you down; he won't leave you."

Psalm 91

1 -13You who sit down in the High God's presence, spend the night in Shaddai's shadow,
Say this: "God, you're my refuge.
I trust in you and I'm safe!"
That's right—he rescues you from hidden traps,
shields you from deadly hazards.
His huge outstretched arms protect you—
under them you're perfectly safe;
his arms fend off all harm.
Fear nothing—not wild wolves in the night,
not flying arrows in the day,
Not disease that prowls through the darkness,
not disaster that erupts at high noon.
Even though others succumb all around,
drop like flies right and left,
no harm will even graze you.
You'll stand untouched, watch it all from a distance,
watch the wicked turn into corpses.
Yes, because God's your refuge,
the High God your very own home,
Evil can't get close to you,
harm can't get through the door.
He ordered his angels
to guard you wherever you go.
If you stumble, they'll catch you;
their job is to keep you from falling.
You'll walk unharmed among lions and snakes,
and kick young lions and serpents from the path.

14 -16 "If you'll hold on to me for dear life," says God,
"I'll get you out of any trouble.
I'll give you the best of care
if you'll only get to know and trust me.
Call me and I'll answer, be at your side in bad times;
I'll rescue you, then throw you a party.
I'll give you a long life,
give you a long drink of salvation!"

Love ya, Girl!

Wow. You have some great friends!

My choice was Psalm 91 - and I see a loving friend has already advised you in that path.

To accompany the theme of refuge and a God who will catch you when you fall, I have Psalm 37:37 -

"Consider the blameless, observe the upright; there is a future for the man of peace." (and woman!)

I will pray that God will enable you to walk through this fire in an upright and blameless fashion - and into a place of peace.

I have no verse to offer at this moment (I'm at work) but I'm offering up a prayer for you, that your spirit will be uplifted and that God will offer you encouragement.

Take care, my friend.

I'm sure that I'm late for this encouragement post, but I'm also sure that God didn't bring me to your blog for nothing today.

I saw your name on the 1,000 Gifts page, and so I thought I'd pop in.

I'll say a prayer for you in my kitchen while I'm making dinner tonight. This little prayer meeting of mine is taking place in about two seconds. So, know that you're loved today as both God and I chit chat about you in prayer. Be blessed.

Dear Jen
I have a slightly diferent perspective.
Over you last few posts, the love you and Jon share has come across so strongly, as well as your faith in the Lord. I want you to read your writing as I have and feel the love and joy that I have seen.
I hope that this helps.
Love from Jen, I will be thinking of you !
