The Tide Has Turned

Congratulations are in order for a number of our friends who had babies this month! Wow, the tide has turned from girls to boys in a matter of weeks. We are thrilled for all of the new parents and know that they will all be excellent moms and dads. Aren’t they the cutest?!
William (nickname Will) Andrew – Born to Andrew and Cari on May 5th, 8 lbs, 6 oz.
Codah Joseph – Born to Choya and Megan on May 11th, 8 lbs, 7 oz, and 19 inches long.
Nicholas Walker – Born to Andy and Laura on May 17th, 7 lbs, 4 oz, and 19 inches long.

On another note, our daughter, Devyn Paige, turned 18 months old last Friday. It is so hard to believe that she has been here with us for that long. It seems like just yesterday that we brought her home to our little house and the dogs sniffed at her curiously, wondering who this tiny bundle was and why she was so important. And now, she bullies these dogs into thinking that she’s the boss, even though they outweigh her by a good 40 lbs. Overnight, it seems her vocabulary is growing by leaps and bounds; suddenly, she’s repeating words left and right. Her newest words are: bye-bye, up, what’s that, keys, ice, there, and the most important one of all, mama. Yippee!

In other Devyn news, we bought her a toddler bed! She so enjoys sleeping in a big bed, namely our bed, and we thought this would help with the transition. Nope! Her first night in the toddler bed did not go over well and her toddler bed remained empty. *Sigh* Jon and I hope to instill more routine into Devyn’s life, including that the toddler bed is HER bed, once we move in with my parents. We’re afraid that the upcoming move is going to throw her for a loop and then we’d be back at square one anyway. So, here’s to hoping that Devyn will adjust to a new life, routine, and bed in the grandparents’ basement.

She is such a joy to our lives and we’re so blessed to have her here with us.

I’m a coffee drinking, book reading, laundry procrastinating, husband and children loving, mess of a woman who believes that chips and salsa can fix anything. We have chickens running around the backyard, a mountain of dishes in the sink, and on any given morning, I have at least 10 school forms that need my signature or initials. It’s a crazy life {I prefer to call it controlled chaos}, but its ours.

You got it, mama... big life changes usually rock their lil worlds. We found that our family bed made huge transitions easier on her. Like when we moved from WA to IN (she was 18 months). But the toddler bed did not go over well with her, nor me. That's why we just did a regular bed with rails on both sides. But my thoughts are with you, on this one. Think of it this way, even as adults we don't like sleeping alone. We crave human touch. How can we blame them?

Wow, a toddler bed already! Good luck with that. We'll be tackling a big girl bed after we move. Emma's going to get our queen bed, how fitting for our little queen! We're going to spring for a nice king. I'm hoping the adjustment will be easier since she's already spent lots of time with us in that bed. Plus, she'll have lots of rolling room. Keep me posted on how that goes. I've read some tips for the transistion in my "how to solve your child's sleep problems" book, so let me know if you'd like me to look them up for you.

You posted those newborn pics just to make me more excited, huh? :) Well, it worked! We will soon move Hunterman to a twin bed but I don't expect much of a problem since he's been sleeping on his own since he was 4 months old. Bedtime is the best routine going in this house (at least for the next few months!!).

Adorable babies, I love the pictures!

I didn't realize Devyn and Snuggle Bug were so close in age. Snuggle Bug just turned 17 months old. :) I'm afraid he'll be in a crib until he climbs out or until we adopt another baby, whichever comes first. He won't be getting a toddler bed anytime soon. :)

Very cute babies. Ah, it makes me miss that little tiny stage and want another one! Oh goodness... Love Devyn's bed too. 18 months is an incredible age, learning so much so quickly.
